What is HTML5 and why use it for developing online casino games?

HTML5 is a significantly more dynamic iteration of HTML, which is the standard markup language for creating web pages. HTML5 incorporates multimedia elements, provides support for audio and video, and enables the creation of animations—all without relying on tools such as Flash or JavaScript. This means that HTML5 games can run directly on any browser without requiring any additional plugins or downloads.

HTML5 has several advantages over other technologies for developing online casino games. Some of these are:

  • Cross-platform compatibility: HTML5 games can be played on any device, whether it is a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Consequently, adopting HTML5 makes for an excellent marketing strategy to reach a wider audience.
  • Better performance: HTML5 games are faster and smoother than Flash or Java games, as they require less code and resources. This improves the user experience and reduces the risk of glitches or errors
  • Higher security: HTML5 games are more secure than Flash or Java games, as they do not rely on external software that can be hacked or exploited. HTML5 games also ensure that your data and transactions are protected
  • More creativity: HTML5 games offer more possibilities for creating stunning graphics, animations, and effects, as well as interactive and immersive features. HTML5 games can also incorporate social media integration, leaderboards, achievements, and other iGaming trends that enhance engagement

Better experience and better performance for iGaming

As we have seen, HTML5 games offer many benefits for both developers and players. But how can you use them to improve your iGaming marketing and business? Here are some of the ways that HTML5 games can help you boost your online gaming marketing strategy.

Increase your conversion rate

HTML5 games can attract more visitors to your website, as they are easy to access and play. By providing a high-quality and enjoyable gaming experience, and with the help of an iGaming digital marketing agency, you can increase your chances of converting visitors into customers.

Retain your customers

HTML5 games can help you retain your customers by offering them a variety of games that suit their tastes and preferences. You can also use HTML5 games to reward your loyal customers with bonuses, free spins, or other incentives.

Expand your market

HTML5 games can help you expand your online gaming marketing by reaching new audiences and segments. You can use HTML5 games to target different demographics, regions, languages, or niches. You can also use HTML5 games to adapt to the latest iGaming trends and demands, such as mobile and live gaming.

Monetise your game with H5 games ads

HTML5 not only offers a better gaming experience and performance, but also a great opportunity to monetise your games by incorporating advertisements using strategic iGaming marketing tactics. Google has introduced the capability to integrate AdSense within games, enabling users to view advertisements, similarly to a website. With the help of an iGaming digital marketing agency, iGaming advertising can be placed at various points during gameplay, such as during breaks between game sessions.

Some of the benefits of using H5 gambling advertising are:

  • Easy integration: H5 games ads are easy to integrate into your HTML5 games using Google’s SDKs and APIs. You can choose from different ad formats, such as banners, interstitials, or video ads, depending on your marketing strategy, game design, and user preferences
  • Targeted ads: H5 iGaming advertising is tailored to your game content and audience demographics, ensuring that your users see relevant iGaming marketing and engaging ads that match their interests and needs
  • High revenue potential: H5 iGaming advertising offers high eCPMs (effective cost per thousand impressions) and fill rates, meaning that you can earn more money from your games. You can also track and optimize your ad performance using Google’s Analytics and reporting tools

iGaming Marketing: how to retain customer loyalty for your online casino

Customer loyalty is important for any business, but for those in the iGaming industry, it’s indispensable. You need to make sure that you secure repeat customers – people who love your games and want to keep coming back. In this article, you’ll learn how good iGaming marketing can build customer loyalty right from the start.

Bonus and rewards for your online casino and iGaming marketing strategy

A great iGaming marketing strategy starts with a great product. No matter how well-crafted your sales pitch might be or how expert your mobile app localization is, customers won’t stick around if you don’t have games they enjoy. Securing a customer base that’s both large and loyal means having a wide range of popular games that will draw in new customers and turn them into regular players.

Bonuses and rewards are great for encouraging return visits. Associating each of your popular games with a bonus makes them even more appealing. For instance, you could offer daily or weekly free spins on a roulette game, or free sessions on a popular slot game for repeat customers who log in every day.

A welcome bonus, like free plays or complimentary credit to spend on your games, is a tried-and-tested iGaming marketing tool. This kind of bonus gives new customers a reason to sign up and creates a positive image for your company. Players like to feel valued and a signup bonus shows that you’re serious about welcoming new players.

Create the best iGaming experience with security and responsibility

Players put a lot of trust in iGaming services when they participate in online gambling. Your players need to know that their sensitive personal and financial data is protected at all times. It only takes one security breach to lose that trust. Once it’s gone, it’s very hard to get back. Using the best information security systems and practices keeps your customers’ data safe and protects your reputation.

Different players prefer different payment options. Some will be paying by credit or debit card, while others will prefer various online payment systems. Make sure that your site has a range of different secure payment options that your players can use. Players are more likely to sign up if you offer familiar and trusted payment methods.

Websites nowadays need to put responsive design front and centre. While many gamers enjoy the expansive and immersive feel of a desktop monitor, others prefer the convenience of a mobile device. Your site needs to look great and perform flawlessly on a range of devices, operating systems and display configurations.

Another factor to consider is the promotion of responsible gaming. Online gaming should be a fun and exhilarating pastime, not a dangerous compulsion. Your site should encourage players to game responsibly. Allow players to set a budget so they don’t spend too much and offer advice on keeping their gaming fun rather than risky. You should also give players the option to permanently block their accounts if they don’t feel able to use your site responsibly. Provide links to relevant support organizations for those who suffer from compulsive gambling.

Quality iGaming services: localization, customization and communication

The iGaming market is a global one, with players from all over the world logging on to enjoy the thrills and spills of online gaming. When you expand into markets overseas, great iGaming translations and localization are the keys to success. Players are more likely to join your site and stay around if they feel that you speak their language and are in touch with their culture. That’s why you need expert website and mobile app localization and professional translations.

Multilingual content is also important for marketing and engagement on social media. Players want to see the latest news about their favourite gaming sites in their native language. Proper translation is also important for effective communication with your customers, something that’s vital for retention. Consider adding a multilingual chatbot to your site, too. These chatbots can provide customer support 24/7, regardless of which language the customer speaks. This saves players from long, annoying waits, putting the information they want at their fingertips.

At 1StopTranslations, we provide top-tier professional translations and localization services for the iGaming industry. We can help you reach and retain more players in more markets than ever before. Whether you’re looking for website translations, mobile app localization or translations for your iGaming marketing materials, we can help. The new sports betting regulations shaking up Brazil’s iGaming sector - 1Stop Translations

The new sports betting regulations shaking up Brazil’s iGaming sector

When Brazil wrote a new set of sports betting regulations in 2018, this type of gambling was illegal under national law. In late July 2023, that changed, as President da Silva finally turned the bill into law.

4 minutes – read

The decision came after a massive match-fixing scandal, in which players were offered up to 20,000 USD to give away penalty kicks and purposefully earn yellow cards. This scandal allowed gamblers to increase their wins on gaming sites. The new gambling regulations are designed to offer legal protection and prevent betting companies from profiting from match-fixing.

The 2018 legislation didn’t have comprehensive regulations, and much of the language used was unclear. This issue has been resolved. More importantly, the amendment now defines how fixed-odds income should be allocated.

Marketing and advertising restrictions

The new law requires gaming operators to encourage responsible gambling in Brazil and prevents bookmakers from acquiring the right to broadcast sports events. Sports betting translations will need to incorporate this requirement, as bookmakers scramble to promote healthier betting habits. The National Council for Advertising Self-Regulation will manage compliance. A self-regulation board will slowly establish gambling regulations governing the ethical standards of sports betting advertising.

The task force was created on 27 July 2023, but sports betting enterprises have already been barred from buying streaming rights for local sporting events. Existing legislation already forbids gambling advertising to promote illegal activities, but the definitions for “responsible gaming habits” have yet to be created. Unlicenced gaming ads will likely be banned in sports betting digital marketing, but it’s still too early for any certainty.

The new law requires gaming operators to encourage responsible gambling in Brazil

International operators have already started rolling out adverts and sponsorships despite their lack of licences. This has occurred despite the fact that Brazil has already banned businesses from sponsoring teams, competitions, and sporting bodies unless they have established headquarters in Brazil.

Brazil’s sports betting law and taxes

Federal Law No. 13,756/2018 will, for the first time in Brazilian history, allow fixed-odds betting so that bookmakers can share the odds of sporting outcomes. This provisional action will also make gambling a taxable matter. Bookmakers will be required to pay a 18% tax on all Gross Gaming Revenues. The Ministry of Sports’ revenue will increase from 1% to 3%. Licencing costs will also rise exponentially from the previous amount of 22 million R$.

In the past, Brazil’s sports betting regulations have provided few resources to manage a healthy gambling space. Sports betting taxes will fix the problem and will be managed as follows:

  • 2.5% will go to the National Fund for Public Security
  • Sports clubs will receive 1.6%
  • 10% will be funnelled into social security
  • 1% will go to the Ministry of Sports
  • The last 0.8% will be spent on sport initiatives

The gambling regulations will also prevent bookmakers’ staff, athletes, and other influential parties from betting. The Ministry of Finance will oversee sports betting regulations, licencing, and advertising.

A true revolution for the LATAM gambling sector

The new taxation is expected to raise 423 million USD for the Brazilian iGaming sector, but it remains a provisional measure. The government will need to renew it after 60 days. However, the taxes will raise enough funds to punish match-fixing.

Gambling has never been this safe or controlled. The legalisation of fixed-odds sports betting is a game-changer for both sport fans and betting houses. Its revenue potential has been unleashed, and it’s sure to drive massive economic growth.

Sports betting houses are still expecting a more transparent, comprehensive set of laws, which will guide sportsbook translations and marketing material.

Expanding your opportunities

If you offer sports betting services, you’re probably coming to grips with what the new legislation means for your business. You just need to look at the USA to get your answer. Within a year of sports betting legalisation, gaming revenue increased to 41 billion USD. Casinos could expand while unethical, poorly-managed gambling houses went out of business. Competition heated up, and access to gaming grew. Some casinos won, and some lost this challenge. If you offer gambling in Brazil, you’ll have to choose your outcome.

As the government issues licences for offline and online gambling, you will, at last, be able to capture foreign revenue. The sports betting market is expected to rise to 44 billion USD. This sector is experiencing an annual growth rate of almost 10%. Diversifying your audience will build stability and push up profits, so this is the time to update your site and sportsbook translations.

A massive growth spurt is on the way. Brazil’s sports betting market is expected to have an annual growth rate of 33.60%. By 2027, it will reach 2.1 million users. Improved regulations might even give local brands a competitive advantage against offshore operators. The government hasn’t brought action against those operators in the past, but burgeoning taxation could give it the funds to do so.

The laws that govern gambling in Brazil might have been updated, but they’re still incipient. As the months go by, legislation will be tightened and amended. Even so, 2023 is a crucial year for casinos. With a market that just became wide open, sports bookers can finally race ahead.

Special bets: the growth of non-sport events betting

Special bets are hugely popular today and are set to grow in popularity as more and more people discover this concept.

Special Bets: The Growth of Non-sport Events Betting- Stop Translations

In the iGaming sector, online gambling providers need to adopt novelty bets if they don’t want to miss out on this growing customer base.

What is a special bet?

Aside from games of chance, most betting has historically focused on sporting events, particularly sports like horse racing. Also known as novelty bets, these non-sports bets offer a way for those who are less interested in sports to enjoy the fun and suspense of betting.

What is a special bet? - 1Stop Translations
Special bets, also known as novelty bets, are a unique category of wagers that go beyond traditional sports betting.

These novelty bets are placed on events and contests all over the world, often by people who’ve never participated in sports betting in their lives. By offering different kinds of bets, businesses in the online gambling sector can attract new customers and use high-profile events to raise their profiles.

Non-sports betting: politics, TV shows, awards and novelty bets

Special betting can focus on all kinds of events. Politics often features in non-sports betting. Many people want to bet on the outcome of an electoral race, whether to reap the rewards when their preferred candidate triumphs or to soothe their disappointment by turning an anticipated electoral loss into a gambling win. Others may bet on something a bit more unusual, such as the resignation of a scandal-hit political figure.

TV shows are another popular sphere for special betting. People turn to iGaming services to bet on events in their favorite serials, like the death of a notable villain. More typically, though, people bet on the outcomes of televised competitions. Shows like America’s Got Talent, the Bachelor or Dancing with the Stars attract huge audiences.

Many of those viewers will want to enhance the excitement by placing bets on their favorite contestants. A third popular arena for special betting is the world of awards. Big-name events like the Oscars, Miss America and the Grammy Awards draw millions of excited viewers who tune in to see if their number-one heartthrob will walk away with the coveted trophy. Betting on these events adds a new dimension to the thrills.

Of course, countless other events can form the basis of a special bet. People bet on everything from the weather to random future events, like a child becoming a professional sports star. Economic events are another popular subject for non-sports bets, with people betting on a rise or fall in the markets. Many people bet on obscure or outlandish possibilities, such as the discovery of alien life.

People have even placed bets on the end of the world, although it’s not clear how they would have collected their winnings if they’d won. Anything and everything can be the subject of a novelty bet if you’re willing to use your imagination.

Special bets to increase users and expand into new markets

Special bets represent an ideal way for the online gambling sector to broaden its appeal. Instead of being something reserved for online slots players and obsessive sports fans, online gambling can be marketed to everyone: music lovers, movie buffs, people who are politically engaged and those who just love a dramatic TV contest. These diverse markets are growing all the time, offering countless new customers from around the globe if a company is smart enough to offer them something they want.

As well as opening up new markets, novelty betting offers a great marketing opportunity for the iGaming sector. By offering bets on the outcome of an event that’s already drawing attention, providers can attract some of that attention to their iGaming services.

People searching for the latest news on a political race or a favorite TV contestant are more likely to stumble across online gambling sites, where they’ll often find something that aligns with their interests and stay on the site to learn more.

When you’re looking to expand into new markets, great translation and localization are crucial. Quality iGaming translations are key when you’re launching services into a new territory. An app or website that’s badly translated and hard to understand can deter potential players, sending them directly into the arms of the competition. For sites offering novelty bets, this is especially important: someone wanting to bet on a local event will naturally be looking for a site in their own language.

That’s where 1StopTranslations comes in. We provide outstanding translation and localization services for the online gaming, financial technology and sports sectors. New gambling advertising bans and how to promote your online casino - 1Stop Translations

New gambling advertising bans and how to promote your online casino

Gambling and iGaming are popular and lucrative forms of entertainment, but they also face many challenges and restrictions in various countries, which can limit the opportunities for operators and affiliates to reach potential customers and grow their businesses.

New gambling advertising bans and how to promote your online casino - 1Stop Translations

In this article, we will explore some of the recent developments in the iGaming sector and how you can overcome them with effective marketing strategies and content creation.

Gambling advertising ban in Australia and the Netherlands

Gambling and iGaming platforms are subject to different laws and regulations depending on the country they operate in or target. Some countries have more liberal and open markets, while others have strict and prohibitive rules. One of the main challenges for gambling and iGaming platforms is to comply with these diverse and changing gambling regulations.

Another challenge is to deal with the negative perception and stigma that gambling and iGaming may have in certain societies or cultures. Gambling and iGaming are often associated with addiction, crime, money laundering, fraud, or social harm.

As a result, some governments, media outlets, or public figures may campaign against gambling and iGaming, or advocate for further restrictions or bans.

Gambling and iGaming platforms are subject to different laws and regulations

For example, in Australia, there is a growing movement to reduce gambling harm by banning all gambling advertising within three years, and from 21 August, a self-exclusion register will be introduced to allow consumers to voluntarily self-exclude themselves from Australian licensed interactive wagering service providers. In the Netherlands and Belgium, there are new laws that strengthen player protection by imposing harsh new advertising and deposit limits.

New restrictions for gambling advertising in sports and media

The restrictions on gambling and iGaming are not only affecting the platforms themselves, but also the channels and methods they use to communicate with their customers or potential customers. In particular, advertising is one of the most affected areas, as many countries have introduced or are planning to introduce bans or limitations on gambling advertising in various media.

For example, in the Netherlands, there is a ban on “untargeted” casino ads, which are shown to a broad selection of people without understanding their needs or demographic. This regulation will affect online casino ads on television, radio, and in public facilities such as sports stadiums. In Belgium, there is a similar ban on all forms of gambling advertising on television.

Moreover, some media outlets have decided to eliminate gambling promotions voluntarily, due to ethical or social reasons. For example, in 2019, The Guardian announced that it would stop accepting advertising from companies that profit from fossil fuels, gambling, tobacco, or payday loans.

Premier League teams also reached an agreement to exclude sponsorships from gambling companies as main sponsors on team uniforms.

These restrictions in communication pose a significant challenge for gambling and iGaming platforms, as they reduce their visibility and reach among their target audience.

How to promote iGaming products

Despite these challenges and restrictions, there are still ways for gambling and iGaming platforms to promote their products effectively and legally. One of the key solutions is to use iGaming content services that can help you showcase your expertise, build trust, drive traffic, generate leads, and convert customers.

Some examples of iGaming content services that help increase engagement are:

  • Reviews of games, platforms, or providers
  • Guides on how to play, win, or improve your skills
  • News, updates, or trends in the industry
  • Stories, testimonials, or case studies of successful players
  • Tips, tricks, or hacks on how to get the best deals, bonuses, or rewards
  • Comparisons, rankings, or ratings of different options

Another solution is to use affiliations, which are partnerships between gambling and iGaming platforms and other websites or influencers that promote their products in exchange for a commission. Affiliations can help you expand your reach, increase your credibility, and generate more sales. Some examples of affiliations that you can use are:

  • Banner ads or links on relevant websites or blogs
  • Sponsored posts or articles on popular media outlets or magazines
  • Social media posts or stories on platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter
  • Email newsletters or campaigns to your subscribers or followers

Videogame and gambling: the evolution of the gamblification phenomenon - 1Stop Translations

Videogame and gambling: the evolution of the gamblification phenomenon

Gamblification has become an increasingly common buzzword in the world of video games, as game developers attempt to wow new players with elements of chance.

Videogame and gambling: the evolution of the gamblification phenomenon - 1Stop Translations

Some welcome these new features, while others are more hesitant. In this article, you’ll discover more about this concept and how it impacts iGaming digital marketing and the broader iGaming space.

What is gamblification?

Gamblification refers to incorporating elements into video games that resemble gambling. This can range from minor additions to games without a gambling focus to primary gaming mechanics.

Videogames might include more straightforward gambling in the form of mini-games, where players can engage in a game of cards or roulette in addition to the main gameplay. Another common example is a loot box. This is a package of in-game rewards that a player can buy, either for game currency, fiat currency or cryptocurrency like Bitcoin.

The player doesn’t know exactly what’s inside the loot box until it’s opened, making each one of them an exciting surprise. Some games, especially Japanese gacha games, focus entirely on the loot box mechanic.

A loot box is a package of in-game rewards that a player can buy

In the blockchain gaming space, gambling is an important feature — it lets developers incorporate blockchain trades into their games in a natural way. Players enjoying blockchain games can gamble for prizes such as:

  • Loot boxes containing desirable items, such as new character skins, equipment, power-ups or in-game currency
  • NFTs, unique digital codes for artwork or in-game items that can be saved or traded
  • In-game currency to spend on upgrades, skins, power-ups and other in-game items

Gamblification for iGaming digital marketing

Gambling elements have important implications for iGaming digital marketing. Essentially, these elements bring together two different spheres of gaming: conventional videogames and iGaming, creating new possibilities for any iGaming marketing agency.

This can offer players an introduction to the fun of gambling through their favorite online games, for those who may then want to investigate other games and iGaming services. There’s also a strong social element around gaming, even in the context of single-player games. Fans love getting together online to talk about the games they’re playing, share tips and trade stories.

Videogames and iGaming creating new possibilities for any iGaming marketing agency

This creates a golden opportunity for iGaming digital marketing, as players will want to know about all the latest games and offers and share them with their friends. Offering free gifts, like in-game currency or loot boxes, in exchange for posts and shares can help to prompt user engagement. Of course, gaming forums, groups and pages are the perfect places to run online ads for iGaming services.

The impact of gambling elements

Gamblification brings a fun new dimension to gameplay. Like any form of gambling, however, gambling in video games is not without its risks. Any company providing iGaming content services needs to keep this in mind when rolling out new games or moving into new markets.

It can be harder to ensure that players are enjoying iGaming responsibly — something that’s vitally important for the iGaming industry as a whole. Since games are, by their nature, highly enjoyable and engaging, some players may struggle to rein in their spending on loot boxes and gambling mini-games. Careless implementation of gambling features might also mean that a game could fall foul of local gambling regulations.

Another area of concern is the possibility of underage players being enticed to gamble through video games. It’s very important that developers are aware of this and avoid adding gambling elements into games marketed to children, and for any iGaming marketing agency to ensure that products are only marketed to adults.

For games featuring gambling as a major mechanic, developers need to ensure that age gates are in place to deter children and teenagers from playing. Age verification via credit card data or other forms of online identification can prevent underage gambling and help compliance with gambling regulations.

Responsible game design should incorporate features to prevent compulsive behaviour and overspending. For example, the game might include a feature that lets players set a daily or weekly budget, so they’ll know when they’ve spent as much as they planned to and it’s time to take a break. Games often include free-to-play levels or activities, which allow users to enjoy the game without spending money.

For any iGaming product or iGaming content service, quality localisation is important. If players can’t fully understand in-game text and messages, it’s not just harder for them to enjoy their games — it’s also harder for them to make informed choices about what to play and how much to spend.

That’s where 1Stop Translations comes in. Our company provides high-quality iGaming translations and localisation services to the online gaming industry. Our fast, accurate iGaming translations make expanding into new markets easier and more profitable.

How to set up a localised advertising campaign for iGaming - 1Stop Translations

How to set up a localised advertising campaign for iGaming

For years now, digital advertising has been an essential tool for the promotion of products or services through the most used channels on the web, such as search engines and social networks.

However, for the iGaming industry, this can become a rather complex challenge, due to the different state laws and restrictions applied on advertising services suppliers.

Legal regulations for iGaming advertising

When it comes to the iGaming industry, state laws are different in each country, and they are subject to continuous changes in several countries of the world. In some countries, advertising online gambling is strictly forbidden.

In other nations, on the other hand, we have more flexible rules, which impose some restrictions in terms of content. In several countries, it is required that the iGaming services suppliers are authorised and observe certain standards regarding the security and privacy of the players.

Added to these limitations are the internal rules of suppliers, such as Facebook and Google Ads, which sometimes do not welcome promotional content dedicated to iGaming, sometimes tending to request different levels of checks or block them.

However, through the purchase of certain licences or the selection of appropriate content, it is possible to promote iGaming content even on those platforms, provided that there are no national restrictions in place.

iGaming localisation for advertising

Once the possibility of promoting a company’s iGaming services in a certain country has been ascertained, it is necessary to create an advertising campaign that is effective and engaging for the target audience.

If the goal of the campaign is to promote someone’s iGaming services in different countries, it is essential to know the specific needs, both in terms of the iGaming content to be promoted and from a linguistic standpoint.

In order to do this, using native translators becomes essential to deliver iGaming specialised translations, which are able to take advantage of the knowledge, tones, and linguistic nuances of a certain country to offer an authentic and engaging message.

In addition to language, iGaming localisation deals also with choosing the different products to be promoted in the target countries, based on local preferences, in order to reach the highest number of users interested in a company’s services.

Another important information for the localisation of an iGaming advertising campaign is the keyword analysis: a promotional campaign on Google allows to publish ads which are aimed at users who have searched for certain keywords on the search engine. These may differ from country to country and not correspond to a simple literal translation from one language to another.

Also in this case, an iGaming specialised localisation is needed, which consists of analysing the right search keywords, considering them in the context of their target market, in order to reach the highest effectiveness for the desired advertising campaign.

iGaming content services for organic advertising

In order to overcome the issue of the restrictions imposed by national laws and advertising platforms, there is always the possibility of promoting a company’s iGaming services by improving its online presence in an organic way.

If you have an online platform such as a blog at your disposal, it is possible to use iGaming specialised content services to publish posts optimised for search engines, in order to be found more easily.

The organic traffic for iGaming represents a slower strategy, but it also ensures more stable results in the long run. Additionally, blog articles are not subject to the limitations that can be found when dealing with advertising platforms.

This way, it will be possible to offer in-depth content, information on the games, strategies and trends, helping therefore the readers to get to know the broad iGaming industry, always keeping an ethical and responsible stance, with transparency and making the user feel informed and safe.

Exactly as for advertising, it is possible to publish articles in different languages, choosing the countries in which a company wants to promote itself, thus improving its position on the web. Without the limitations of national laws for the iGaming industry, it is possible to offer a wider range of content and make use of iGaming localisation in different ways.

Of course, this method will require more time, as well as a strategy to schedule and create content (editorial plan) which can be considered relevant for both users and search engines, with its subsequent publication on a regular basis.

Just like when setting up advertising campaigns, to promote one’s brand through organic traffic, it is recommended to make use of partners who are as specialised as possible in the iGaming industry, both for setting up the advertising campaign and for the creation of content dedicated to iGaming.

New gambling laws in UK: what's new - 1Stop Translations

New gambling laws in UK: what’s new

April 27, 2023, saw the presentation of a long-awaited UK gambling white paper laying out proposed changes to how the iGaming business is regulated.

New gambling laws in UK: what's new - 1Stop Translations

If you would like to know more about the new gambling laws and regulations that are outlined in the paper, 1Stop Translations is here with a complete run-down.

The key areas of the paper are as follows:

  • Changes to gaming regulations in the smartphone era
  • Checks and limits suggested by the white paper
  • How online advertising should be handled

Gambling regulations in smartphone era

Given that the gambling white paper is based on a review of laws passed in 2005, it has had to consider the vast changes to iGaming business that have occurred since then.

To put things in context, the smartphone era did not truly begin until 2007, when the iPhone was released. Britain’s iGaming services have undergone significant transformation to adapt to this changing media landscape, and it is only natural that gambling law is modified to catch up.

As part of its recommendations for the iGaming sector, the paper proposes a maximum stake limit for online slot games. The suggested sum is between £2 and £15, although this may change as it is subject to consultation. The idea here is to limit high-stakes gaming, while still ensuring that the gambling law does not spread to an unneeded interference with safer, low-stakes gaming.

Another proposal concerns deposit limits, which are standard at online casinos and iGaming business sites. Under new gambling laws, deposit limits could potentially become mandatory, or at least set as a default so that the player can choose to opt out (as opposed to current practice in iGaming translations, where players choose to opt in).

Still another aspect of gambling in the smartphone era is the matter of account verification. The paper concludes that current systems are effective but suffer from a few weaknesses in terms of matching the holder of a given account to the payment details.

This problem could lead to compliance issues that could directly affect iGaming translations. The paper makes a vague statement about future discussions on how such risks can be mitigated with new regulations and technologies.

New gambling white paper: checks and limits

One of the conclusions reached by the white paper is that evidence points to an association between specific aspects of online gambling and an elevated risk of harm: in other words, that the online form of gambling has the potential to be more harmful to players than gambling in physical betting shops, casinos and other traditional outlets.

While the white paper acknowledges the widely-held principle that members of the public should have the freedom to choose how to spend their money, even if their choices might be unwise or even dangerous, it also recommends a series of risk checks that can help to make it safer to gamble online.

The paper suggests that, if a player loses a certain amount on gambling then they will be subject to unintrusive checks

The paper suggests that, if a player loses a certain amount on gambling (a net loss of £125 within a single day or £500 over the course of a month are put forward as moderate amounts) then they will be subject to unintrusive checks. More detailed checks will commence at higher loss levels (£1,000 within a day or £1,000 across 90 days are the proposed numbers).

Gamblers still have the freedom to continue playing and potentially losing; under these proposed gambling regulations, the checks would merely offer the player advice and guidance, rather than actively prevent them from continuing. Another proposal is that younger players in the iGaming sector, those aged from 18 to 24, be subject to enhanced checks at lower thresholds.

Gambling advertising, marketing and sponsorship

The gambling white paper flags up potential issues with online adverts for iGaming services. It warns that such promotions could encourage excessive gambling among people who have already developed unhealthy habits regarding online casinos; they may also attract minors under 18 who are too young to play at such sites under gambling law.

The two primary areas for reform identified by the paper are direct marketing and bonus offers. Direct marketing is tailored towards specific individuals whose browsing habits indicate an interest in online gambling, and so can potentially affect people with gambling addictions.

Offers of welcome bonuses and free bets, meanwhile, can be misleading; the paper announces that the Gambling Commission will review such offers to ensure that they are presented responsibly, and will also strengthen the role of consent in direct marketing, giving users more room to opt out of such adverts.

The thrust of the new or revised gambling regulations relating to adverts is that these promotions will make a greater effort to avoid appealing to vulnerable people and children. To give an example, the Premier League has agreed to withdraw gambling logos from players’ shirts as of the end of the 2025/2026 season precisely because of its appeal to younger people.

The paper announces that the DCMS Online Advertising Programme is reviewing the matter with a particular focus on the role of online platforms in the dissemination of adverts for iGaming services.

Conclusion

The Importance of Native Speakers in iGaming Translations - 1Stop Translations

The importance of native speakers in iGaming translations

In this article, we will explore the importance of native speakers in iGaming translations, the benefits of using them, the challenges faced in iGaming content services, and how to identify and collaborate with the right professionals for a successful iGaming localisation.

The Importance of Native Speakers in iGaming Translations - 1Stop Translations

The iGaming industry is growing rapidly, with an increasing number of players across the world looking to engage with online gaming platforms. As a result, the need for translations and iGaming content services has become essential to cater to a diverse and global audience.

However, translating content for the iGaming industry can be challenging, with specific linguistic and cultural nuances that can significantly impact the player experience.

Localisation is not just translation

The difference between localisation and a regular translation lies in the scope of their reach. While translation refers to the conversion of text or speech from one language to another, localisation takes this process further by adapting the content to fit a specific culture or locality.

This includes not only linguistic differences but also cultural nuances, regional preferences, and technical considerations. In essence, iGaming localisation goes beyond mere communication to ensure that the message is conveyed accurately and effectively within a new context.

By providing translations in their native language, iGaming platforms can create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for players. This can lead to increased player satisfaction and loyalty.

Those who speak the player’s native language can also provide localised translations of content, such as promotions, bonuses, and customer support, making it easier for players to access information and enjoy the gaming experience.

Terminology in the iGaming sector

Languages and cultures have distinct nuances that can affect the accuracy and clarity of translations. For instance, idioms, slang, and cultural references that are commonly used in one language may be entirely unfamiliar in another.

This is particularly relevant in iGaming, where the use of specific terms and phrases can affect the accuracy of the translation. For example, in roulette, the term “en prison” refers to a betting rule that allows players to keep their bet if the ball lands on zero. A non-native speaker may not understand this and could mistranslate it, causing confusion.

Irreversible repercussions of translation errors

In iGaming, even the smallest mistake in translation can have serious consequences. For instance, mistranslating the rules of a game can lead to players making incorrect decisions, adversely affecting their chances of winning.

Errors in translations and other iGaming content services can also lead to misunderstandings regarding bonuses, promotions, and regulatory requirements, which could result in players losing trust in the platform.

Legal and regulatory compliance

iGaming is a highly regulated industry with strict legal requirements in various jurisdictions. To ensure compliance, translations must accurately convey these regulations and requirements. For instance, mistranslating a gambling or betting regulation could result in the platform being in violation, leading to hefty fines or even to the loss of the platform’s licence.

Benefits of using native speakers in iGaming services

The challenges faced in iGaming translations make it clear that those who speak the primary language of a region are indispensable to ensure quality, accuracy, and cultural awareness. Here are some of the benefits of using such translators in iGaming services:

Quality and accuracy of translations

Those who speak the primary language of a region have an innate understanding of its language and culture, making them best equipped to translate iGaming content accurately. They possess the ability to understand and convey the nuances, slang, and idioms of the language, ensuring that translations are clear, accurate, and easy to understand.

Cultural awareness

iGaming content often includes cultural references and terminology that may not be familiar to everyone. Those who speak the primary language of a region have a deep understanding of their own culture and can accurately translate these references, ensuring that they are culturally appropriate and suitable for the target audience.

Increased player retention and engagement

By providing accurate and culturally appropriate translations, speakers of a region’s primary language can enhance the overall gaming experience for players. This can lead to increased player retention and engagement, as players feel more comfortable and confident participating in iGaming activities.

First-language translations for a better user experience

In conclusion, investing in translators who speak the native language of their region is critical to the success of iGaming localisation.

With the right recruitment strategies, effective project management, and quality assurance processes in place, you can ensure that your translations are accurate and culturally appropriate and that they effectively reach your target audience. As the industry continues to grow and evolve, investing in the right professionals for iGaming content services and translation needs will remain essential for success.
